POUCH MATERIAL The retort pouch was originally made from laminates of three relatively thin layers of materials which are Polyester Film (Outer Layer), Aluminium Foil (Middle Layer), and Polypropylene (Inner Layer). In recent years, the pouch design has been modified to include Nylon as a fourth layer. Polyester (PET) is known for its strength, toughness and heat resistance (melting point of 264°C) and these properties make it inert to food at elevated temperatures. The Nylon provides strength and abuse resistance to piercing and flex-pinhole resistance. Aluminium foil acts as a gas and moisture barrier and protects the product against light. Polypropylene (PP) is another heat sealable film that resists retort temperature (up to 130°C). It also adds stiffness to the package and resists staining.

OUTER LAYER: A tough Polyester (PET) film which provides protection for the middle layers. Known for its high temperature resistance, toughness and printability.

OUTER MIDDLE LAYER: The newer Nylon layer makes the pouch more durable. Adding strength to the pouch improves the pouch's performance in extreme temperatures and condition, such as: the cooking/sterilization process, cold-weather storage, and rough handling.

INNER MIDDLE LAYER: The key to the pouch‟s shelf stability, Aluminium Foil, the most effective and economical barrier to moisture, light and oxygen. The result: No refrigeration or freezing will ever be required.

INNER LAYER: Next to the food is a very special flexible Polypropylene (PP) film. It is compatible with the widest variety of foods so that no “canned” or other unwanted taste is added to the food. It also ensures an exceptionally strong heat seal.
